The battles format

Today we are beginning to explore the core elements of Battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars… starting with the ‘format’ of the battles.

The game is designed to be serial and to allow to bring all the battles of the era to the gaming table. A base box will contain everything needed to play: unit pieces , special dice, markers, the rulebook, and a series of “Battlefield folders”.

A text on the folder front briefly introduces the historical context of the battle. Its back shows the starting deployment of the two armies.

Once the setup is completed, the folder is turned over and opened to double as a game board, which describes the specific rules for the battle, those for the terrains, and the ‘dashboard’ that the players will use to issue orders to their units during the game.

The folder obviously also works as… a folder, to house the actual battlefield map. Maps come in different sizes, depending on the dimensions of the battlefield and on its scale: Small (29.7*42 cm), Medium (42*59.4 cm) and Large (59.4*84 cm).

What battle do you want to play tonight? Open a folder of your choice, place your units, and within minutes you’ll be in the heat of the action.

(Note: All artwork and graphic design used in these posts is still work-in-progress).
